County Cork is located in the south west corner of Ireland, part of the province of Munster and named after the city of Cork. It is a beautiful and scenic county with many mountain ranges including the Caha Mountains, the Slieve Miskish, the Ballyhoura Mountains, the Shehy Mountains (in which Knockboy, at 706m, is the highest peak in Cork), and the Galtee Mountains which extend through Tipperary, Limerick and Cork. The Galtee Mountains are the highest range in Ireland.
There are three major rivers in Cork, the Lee, the Blackwater and the Brandon, as well as a number of lakes. The river valleys, lakes, forests and mountains, combine with the dramatic coastline and many beaches to make Cork a wonderful holiday destination. All the scenery, of course, forms the home of a great deal of wildlife, and the surrounding ocean is a great place to see whales, basking sharks and a number of other species.
Any visit to Cork would not be complete without visiting some of the small villages and surrounding islands, including Fota Island with its house, gardens and wildlife park, and of course Cork is home to the Blarney Stone.

Travelling to or from Ireland? Don't forget the ferry! Not only does a ferry ride give you
the freedom of taking your own car but it provides a superb experience of travelling
by sea and exploring the coastline. With convenient routes between Holyhead and Dublin, or Pembroke and Rosslare, we recommend
Irish Ferries for great, low-cost, transport. They are the leading Irish ferry company and provide both an excellent service, and excellent prices.
